Dr Kimberley Liu
I am a chartered Counselling Psychologist registered with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). I have a number of years of clinical experience working in various adult mental health services and chronic pain clinics within the NHS and private practise.
As people are inherently complex and their problems unique, I always tailor therapy to the client's individual needs to best support them to overcome the difficulties they experience. In private practice I work individually with young and older adults on a short and long term basis drawing from the following psychological models, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Existential Psychology, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Psychodynamic approaches.
I provide psychological assessment, formulation and treatments for a broad range of conditions including:
Chronic Pain Management
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
Low mood and depression
Generalised anxiety disorder
Self-esteem, self-image and confidence difficulties
My area of interest and reseach has been in the experiences of perceived self failure. I find that in both my professional and personal life most of us have felt that sense of failure or just having that thought of ‘ I’m just not good enough’. Such a perception of oneself can trigger emotional distress and may be linked to a broad range of psychological conditions including depression, anxiety, bipolar affective disorder, emotional instability to name but a few.
I am able to offer both daytime and evening sessions on a face to face basis or via Skype.
